A gentle prayer from the New Zealand Prayer Book is always appropriate, but in these global difficult COVID-19 days, perhaps even more so.

May the quietness of God’s peace enfold
those who grieve;
those living in fear;
experiencing anxiety;
awaiting transition from this life to the next life;
living with addiction, chronic illness, violence, homelessness
dealing with financial crisis, abuse, mental illness;
dying alone;
suffering in physical, emotional, spiritual pain;
living in isolation – be that in prison, self-imposed or a nursing home / assisted living facility with no visitors allowed
because of COVID-19.

The night is dark.
Let our fears of the darkness of the world
rest in God.

The night is quiet.
Let the quietness of God’s peace
enfold us all.”
