Such a man” as described by Alexander Hamilton (words from the past) are important words for today.

“When a man unprincipled in private life, desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, despotic in his ordinary demeanour, known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty – when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity to join in the cry of danger to liberty to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion to flatter and fall in with all the nonsense of the zealots of the day – it may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may “ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.”
<Alexander Hamilton, August 18, 1792>

“Such a man”
is no longer a pipe dream.
“Such a man” exists.
He is a man who is “unprincipled in private life, desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, despotic in his ordinary demeanour, known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty.”

“Such a man” exists.
He is mounting “the hobby horse of popularity” and taking “every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion to flatter and fall in with all the nonsense of the zealots of the day.”

Such a man” is throwing things “into confusion.”

What to do?
Frustration without peaceful protest will not help.
Anger without peaceful action will not help.

What will help?
Registering to vote
Voting
Becoming politically active in local communities
Speaking out
Standing up.
These will begin to turn the tide of the whirlwind that “such a man” is directing in the United States and others are doing or beginning to emulate in other parts of the world.

“Such a man” is real.
For the future of democracy, those-in-power must have the courage to not only challenge, not only speak out, not only rise up against the Principalities and Powers that threaten the future, but do all three.

To remain silent or to ignore what is happening will be at our peril or at the very least, at the peril of our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and beyond and at the peril of our earth.
