I like to think of intuition as a muscle … a spiritual muscle that is exercised when I see and listen to Spirit – Holy Other – God – By Whatever Name. When I allow my inner awareness speak; when I pay attention to the messages that abound in various ways; when I listen to the still, small Voice within, I find that blessings often abound in surprising ways at work, in relationships, personal decision-making, creativity, and reasoning what is ‘fact’ and what is ‘alternative fact.’
I was scheduled to be on a flight one day and needed to be at the airport by 7:30 pm, but a time of 5:00 pm kept surfacing in my mind over and over and over again. I couldn’t understand it, but paid attention to it, even though I definitely wasn’t looking forward to the long stay at the airport before the flight. I was at the check-in desk by 5:00 pm and when I handed my travel documents to the agent, her “Your flight was cancelled” statement confused me. The flight was cancelled? I had had no notice of such a change – not a text message, email or phone call. I was puzzled. But when the agent said “The last flight of the day leaves soon. I’ll see if I can get you on the flight and if I can, you’ll have to hurry because boarding is in forty minutes,” I picked up my carry-on luggage and ran to the boarding gate.
Had I not listened or paid attention to that “get to airport by 5:00 pm” gentle nudge within me, I would not have been able to travel that night and would have had to spend a very uncomfortable night in the airport. But instead, I listened to my intuition (what I think of as my spiritual muscle) and made my flight. Be still. Pay attention. Listen to your intuition … Spirit … the “still, small Voice within.”
